CCR7 plays an important role in the homing of central memory and nave T cells to peripheral lymphoid organs. The binding of CCR7 ligands CCL19 and CCL21 during viral infection promotes activation and differentiation of CCR7 expressing cells, as well as changes in their migration properties to modulate the immune response (reviewed Yan et al. 2019).
