Evidence Summary from Illumina curation team: The GPR183 gene has been shown to be upregulated following infection with Epstein-Barr virus and aids in leukocyte migration into airways in response to allergens (Shen et al. 2017). GPR183 knockout mice exhibit enhanced pro-inflammatory cytokine release following an inflammation-inducing stimulus (Ruthiwska et al. 2018). In addition, recent work that has not yet been peer-reviewed found GPR183 expression on macrophages in severe Covid 19 patients (Liao et al.; https://doi.org/10.1101/2020.02.23.20026690). EBV seropositivity was also associated with fever and increased inflammation in Covid 19 patients in non-peer-reviewed work by Chen et al. (10.21203/rs.3.rs-21580/v1).
