Evidence Summary from Illumina curation team: IFNA1 encodes IFN alpha, and belongs to the family of type I IFNs which bind to and activate the IFNAR receptor complex. Type I Interferons (IFN-I) mediate numerous immune interactions during viral infections, they establish an antiviral state as well as invoke and regulate innate and adaptive immune cells that eliminate infection (Lukele et al. 2019, review; Wang et al.2019 review).
