HTR2A gene product - serotonergic receptor (5HT(2A)R) can act as a cell receptor for human polyomavirus JCV (JVC) on on human glial cells. 5HT(2A)R antagonists inhibit JVC infection and monoclonal antibodies to 5HT(2A)R blocked the viral infection (PMID 15550673).
